April 26-27

The overnight ride to Santa Cruz will be two epic days of cycling with spectacular scenery and great company. The date for this ride is Saturday April 26th and Sunday April 27th.

There will be two ride options, Long and Short. The short ride will feature SAG support.

Day One - Short riders ride in a car to Hwy 92 & Hwy One.
Parking for short riders driving to the Half Moon Bay start point: There is a twenty four hour parking lot that is located two blocks from where we will be departing.

Directions to parking lot:
Take Main Street (turn left) off of Hwy #92, go two blocks and you will come to Mill St. Make a left turn at Mill St., the parking lot is on your left hand side of the street and is clearly marked.
Everyone will meet at the Rite Aid Shopping Center, by the Alliance Gas and Convenience store at the corner of Hwy #92 & Hwy #1.

Long Riders - Bart to Daly City - John Daly Blvd. to Skyline Blvd., Skyline Blvd. to Sawyer Camp Trail, Sawyer Camp Trail to Hwy 92, Hwy 92 to Half Moon Bay. (Meet the other riders)

All riders meet in Half Moon Bay at Rite Aid (corner of Hwy 92 & Hwy 1) and ride south together on Hwy. one to Santa Cruz. Rest stop would be at Pigeon Point (fantastic place to take a break.)

Day Two - All riders ride out together, north on Hwy. One.

1. Long riders would break off at Tunitas Creek, climb up to Kings Mtn. Road, and, descend down to Woodside Road to Canada Road, Canada Road to Sawer Camp Trail, Sawer Camp Trail to Skyline Blvd., Skyline Blvd. to John Daly Blvd., John Daly Blvd. to Daly City Bart, Daly City Bart Home.

2. Short riders would ride up to Half Moon Bay and ride in a car back to Alameda.

Lodging - Mission Inn, Santa Cruz. It is located on the left as soon as you ride in to Santa Cruz. It is a clean place, and has a great little court yard for the riders to get together after our ride. The rates are pretty reasonable $90.00 for a double, and $80.00 for a single. I have 10 double rooms blocked off you must make your own reservation, the price includes a continental breakfast. There is a Thai Restaurant, Mexican Restaurant, and a Pizza Place, all with in walking distance.

Sag Support - My wife will bring the riders from Alameda to Half Moon Bay, and act as a sag support from Half Moon Bay to Santa Cruz. I think we will probably need another person and car to help with the transporting of people to Half Moon Bay, and any riders that can't make the bell on day two.

Additional Information:

Day 1

Long riders will meet at Peet's Coffee at 7 a.m. We will have a quick review of the day, get a cup of coffee and will ride to Bart and should be able to catch a 7:30 train to Daly City. Please be considerate of your fellow riders and be on time.

Riders leaving from Half Moon Bay will meet at my house (3245 Encinal Ave. at 9a.m., you will leave around 9:30a.m. You will be transported by car to Half Moon Bay. Please be considerate of your fellow riders and be on time.

Long riders and riders leaving from Half Moon Bay will hook up at Hwy 92, and Hwy 1. We will ride south on Hwy 1 all the way to Santa Cruz. From Half Moon Bay to Santa Cruz you will have sag support. If a group of riders wants to hammer and separate from the slower riders, a ride leader will always be back with that group. As a reminder the wind will be at your back going south and you can really make some great time. All riders will re-group at Pigeon Point this will be our first rest stop, snacks and water will be available there is also restrooms. The next stop for those who will need one will be Davinport, this is a small town that is 10 miles from Santa Cruz.

At the end of our ride on day one after everyone gets checked in and gets a much needed shower, we will meet in the court yard and chat about the ride and how it went. I will go over day two, and answer any questions that may come up. Of course this will be done with the assistance of a much needed glass of wine, or a beer or two. I will make reservations ahead of time at the restaurant of choice, sounds like the people that I have talked to are leaning towards Italian.

At the beginning of April, I will send out a list of all of the riders that are confirmed for this ride. If you have any additional questions at all about the ride please call Dan DeBardeleben at 415-722-5207.

1. Bag drop off will be Friday 4/25, from 6pm to 8:30pm. The address to drop off your things is 3245 Encinal Ave. Alameda, please don't pack anything that you don't think you will need. This does not include your bike, every one will ride their bike to the departure site.

Volunteers Needed!

Team Alameda Gives Back

As a non-profit organization, Team Alameda is exploring options for a worthy community service project that we can sponsor in 2008.

We are seeking at least 2 team members to be part of a committee to help plan a fund raising project for the Alameda Education Foundation, which aims to help local schools by providing the means to procure educational materials and supplies, provide after-school enrichment programs and much more.

What can Team Alameda do to help? Our volunteers would create inventive ways for TA to raise funds for the AEF--It could be as simple as getting sponsors for a century ride or something more elaborate that would include all current team members.

If you are interested in helping Team Alameda help Alameda's kids, and want to volunteer to be on this planning committee, contact Peter Deutsch at: pmdeutsch at msn dot com or 510-521-8077.

NEW! "First Sundays" are now Introductory Group Rides!

Especially for the new rider: Learn to ride with a group and build skills

The first Sunday of every month, Team Alameda will be offering Introductory Rides for new riders. If you've thought about riding with Team Alameda, but weren't sure you were up to speed, this is the ride to get you in the swing!

The ride itself will be an easy paced, flat terrain ride where you can learn the ropes of group riding. There will be two to three official Team Alameda ride leaders on hand to mentor new riders and refresh memories of bike handling skills. Newbies will meet a gregarious bunch of cycling buddies who have found group riding to be an essential part of their lives, and want to pass that on.

"First Sunday" rides will meet the first Sunday of each month at 9am, in front of Kaiser at 2417 Central Avenue, Alameda.

Don't let the spandex frighten you! Team Alameda wants everyone to enjoy cycling as much as we do, so come on out and experience firsthand the fun of riding with Team Alameda!
